A gift is money] or goods given without expectation. It is common to give gifts for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays such as Christmas. It is a moot point whether help from a charity or donor is a gift or a grant, since even if it is unconditional in use it is likely to be given to meet some need. If there is any expectation is a conditional gift – or no gift at all! It may, of course, be a recognition of past efforts, support or help; but if it is in any way conditional on that past it is no longer a gift, but a reward or thank you..
